Eventually Geralt seeks out Yennefer. Even with their last conversation and an uncertain future hanging between them, it only makes sense to find her. She's the only one here who knows him and Jaskier—knows them the right way, beyond passing in the halls of the hotel or suffering through Hell's tribulations together.
She's one of the few people whose opinion he actually values.
So despite the fact he's sure she's going to laugh in his face, he finds himself knocking at her door. He can hear that she's in, but he'll pretend he doesn't know to be polite.
Yennefer has been trying to give Geralt his space -- and to be blunt, in the absence of Tech, Jaskier has needed her more. So she's been spending a lot of time with the bard, because on some level she understands his pain. She may not have been in love with Tech but he had been very important to her all the same.
But currently she's in her own room and she reaches out with her mental magic to get an idea of who's there -- only to find familiar thoughts.
She opens the door with a tired smile. "I'm surprised you bothered knocking."
"I wasn't sure you'd welcome me barging in." Not with how shakey the ground between them has seemed lately. While nothing has become a conflict, Geralt has the distinct sense of walking on treacherous ground, as though the wrong step might uncover quicksand or some monster's sinkhole lair.
With the strange twist that in this case, he himself might be the monster.
"You'd be able to hear if I wasn't alone and probably wouldn't bother knocking in that case."
It's just facts, his witcher senses usually give away if she has company -- not that she does often, she doesn't really invite people to her personal space outside of him and maybe the bard.
"Depends on whose company you were in." Which is a way not to agree, even though she's right. Yennefer is right about him more often than he probably gives her credit for.
In particular where it regards the polite habits he's picked up so he doesn't unnerve people who don't like knowing he can hear the beating of their heart or smell what they had for breakfasts still lingering on their breath hours after. Things most people don't like because they remind them that he's not human quite.
"And here I thought you weren't the jealous kind." She's teasing. They've never claimed ownership of one another. He's never tried to chain her the way most men do -- the wish notwithstanding.
"But it is a fine time, perish the idea I turn you away when you actually want to talk, such a miracle might not ever happen again."
Geralt, these are the people you have chosen in your life.
He wanted to keep her, it's true. But Geralt knows better than to think Yen's attention is in short supply. He's willing to share.
Despite how it might seem, he knows better than to try to hold on too tightly.
He grunts softly, acknowledging her joke. He won't let the ribbing drive him away, but it doesn't make what's to come next any more comfortable. "It's about Jaskier," he admits before he can back out. "I'm... concerned."

Little does she know the bard is why he's here.
