It's not so much because he's embarrassed about why he was given the phone as it is he's never had to provide any explanation for it to anyone until now. And he's perhaps acutely aware that the first person he's having to explain it to is Yennefer of all people. He doesn't anticipate she shall poke fun at it or even offer genuine criticisms. As jagged and sharp as Yennefer's edges are, Jaskier doesn't believe her to be immune to sentimentality or that desire to hold onto something that meant so much to her once. I'm trying to use it a bit more than that though while he's away. The way Tech explained it to me, anytime anyone uses devices like this for any reason, it's a form of worship. It keeps him strong.
